From railway station to community landmark

The first Tennessee Central train reached Crossville in September 1900. A boxcar served as a temporary station before the original depot building was finished. The railroad carried passengers and connected the Plateau’s stone and timber industries with markets beyond the county.

A fire destroyed that first station on February 14, 1925. The building visitors see today was completed across the tracks in May 1926. Rail service ended in the early 1980s, and the tracks were removed.

Community restoration began in 1996, with local Rotary clubs and other volunteers helping bring the neglected landmark back into use. Today, the City operates the Depot as a visitor stop, gift shop and community space.
